How to Choose Your Slay

Your Slay is built around you — not around what looked good on someone else's page.

Before you fall in love with a color because it's trending, or a curl pattern because it looked good on your favorite girl online, slow down and think about how you actually want to wear your hair. Every choice you make affects the next one, so there's an order that makes this easier.

There are four things we recommend choosing, in this order:
  1. Lace Size
  2. Texture
  3. Fullness
  4. Color

1 Choose Your Lace Size

This is really a question of how much lace you want to manage day to day. A bigger lace piece gives you more room to move your part and expose more of your hairline — but it's also more lace to maintain. A smaller lace piece keeps things simpler.

Neither is "better." It depends on how much freedom you want versus how much upkeep you're realistically going to do.

2x6

The most contained option. Great if you mostly wear one part and want the least amount of lace to think about — beginner-friendly and low-fuss.

5x5

Our sweet spot for most everyday wear. Enough room to shift your part without feeling like a lot of lace to maintain.

6x6

More space across the top for versatile parting and a more natural blend at the hairline. This is the size behind our signature build.

7x7

Maximum styling freedom — deep side parts, flip-overs, more of your natural hairline exposed. Best if you genuinely plan to switch it up often and don't mind the extra care.

If you're not sure, ask yourself: how much do I actually want to fuss with my part week to week? If the answer is "not much," start smaller. You can always size up on your next Slay.

2 Choose Your Texture

Texture changes everything about how a unit falls, how much it needs from you day to day, and how it holds up in real life — work days, workouts, weather and all.

Straight

Sleek, polished, easiest to maintain day to day. A great pick if you're wearing your unit often or don't want to spend time refreshing a curl pattern.

Wavy

Soft movement without being high-maintenance. Reads effortless — good for everyday wear that still feels done.

Curly

Instant body and fullness. A great choice if you want that just-left-the-salon look the moment you put it on.

Coily

The most texture and volume. Beautiful if that's genuinely your everyday look and lifestyle — heat and humidity will affect how long a curl pattern holds, so keep your climate in mind.

3 Choose Your Fullness

Fullness is about how much hair you actually want sitting on your head — and it changes how heavy a length feels and how the texture behaves.

Natural

Fine to medium density. Best for shorter lengths and anyone who wants something that reads like your own hair, just handled.

Classic

Full, easy to wear, our most requested fullness. The safest pick if you're not sure — it works across almost every length and texture.

Voluminous

Maximum body. Ideal if you're going longer or want heavier layers — just know a fuller unit at a longer length will feel like more hair to manage.

4 Choose Your Color

Color is usually where people want to start. We recommend choosing it last — because once you know your lace size, texture, and fullness, the real question becomes clear:

For work & everyday

Deeper, dimensional tones — think natural browns and blacks with subtle warmth. Something that reads polished, not "different hair today."

First time trying color

Start with dimension instead of a full change — a soft highlight or balayage lets you test lighter tones without committing to an all-over shift.

For your birthday, a night out, a moment

This is when you get to be a little less practical. Go brighter. Go bolder. Wear the color you've been saving.
